A Demanding Desire

بعدِ وصل وہ پھر ہے ہجر طلب

شاید دلِ بیتاب پھر ہے سفر طلب

وہی الزام وہی دشنام ہم ہی بدنام

کرتے ہیں وہ پھر، میرا سر طلب

j

نشہ تو ٹوٹ گیا پر تشنگی باقی

ہوتی رہی ہم کو طلب، اکثر طلب

j

طالبِ عشق کو ملتی ہے یہ صلاح

نا سوچ اُس بارہ میں، مت کر طلب

j

کچھ مانگا تھا کچھ چاہا تھا خدا سے

خواہش تو ہوئی مردہ، تمنا اجر طلب

j

کون یہ کہتا؟ کے استاد ہے پارسا؟

اس کی نماز بے سرور، دعا اثر طلب

j

After the lovers union

She seeks a parting

Perhaps the unstilled heart

Seeks to travel further

j

The same accusations

Insinuations

Lead to my ignominy

And yet again she demands my head

j

And though I woke up from my stupor  

I remain thirsty yet

I want it

And I want more of it

j

And those who seek love

Are to be given this advice

Do not seek it

Just do not

j

So I sought out God

To ask a boon

I remained unfulfilled

My desired died eventually

j

Then who dares call him

A spiritual man?

His rituals hold no meaning

His prayers go unanswered
