What I did in a dream…

I turned her doorway

Into a place of worship

Let God punish me

As She may

j

Between East and West

I picked one

But I constantly fret

I’ve picked wrong

j

My desires

Were not fulfilled

But I did it all

Within a dream

j

It wasn’t easy

To hold myself

It was quite hard

To turn poison to sugar

j

The enraged lover

Was hard to control

Akin to damming a river

and turning it to a lake

j

This spring made the mullah

Turn to youth

He changed his clothes, shaved

Then dyed his hair

j

They come to guide me

To change my beliefs

Since the faith was fine

Before I singlehandedly spoiled it?

  1. “the soul, some Arabs believe, can only travel at the pace of a trotting came. They are right.” these are some ‘favorite’ words that i read in an introductory passage of a very interesting book! your words remind me of that..they make me travel at the pace of my soul..it’s like going inside a dream..living years and years within…what they call..’seconds..in time’..and coming back anew …

    • Thank you so much for those kind words! Although I wish I had the words to make the mind race and travel lightyears in seconds 🙂

I really feel that Iqbal had that strength and haven’t found a comparable Urdu poet! 🙂

      • u r welcome:) i wish someday i can be as close to Urdu poetry as u r (will take much time and travel) ! i couldn’t agree more..the strength and glory in Iqbal’s words has always worked magic for me..secrets in his words ..when revealed open new found lands of knowledge …your work has the same qualities …
